"My Golden Ticket Moment To A Better Life"

This months article is going to be a little bit different, as I share with you the story of how C.Evans Virtual Assistant came to be! 

At the age of 19, I found myself sitting at my desk in a showroom dealership filled with dread and failure (oh and how could I forget the chronic anxiety that controlled my mind 24/7). When I wasn’t trying to sell someone a car that was 10 times the price of my monthly salary, I found myself plotting with the subconscious voice in my head about all the ways we could avoid returning to this mind-numbing place again in the morning. 

(Trust me…you name it, we thought it!)

It was the Summer of 2017, I was attempting to navigate the world of adulthood, trying to fit into society and conforming to the standards of life by working a tedious 9-5 job that would allow me to earn money, buy a home, build a family, maybe get a dog or two (you know that perfect fairytale life we are all conditioned to believe is easy to lead when we’re young) 

But to mine, and my subconscious voice's surprise, our ticket out of that showroom dealership finally came in a way that we weren’t quite expecting. A pretty pastel green slip handed to me by my doctor as an invite into the world of antidepressants and beta-blockers.
 
It was at that very moment I knew "enough was enough" and I couldn’t continue on this destructive path that I “believed” was crafted for me.

So, that night, I sat down for a date with Google, pen and paper at the ready and a cold glass of Diet Coke in hand, on the hunt for roles that would allow me to create a balance in working on overcoming my anxiety and building a life that I could thrive in! 

As I scrolled through all the “work from home” roles (there weren’t many options pre-pandemic), nothing was giving me the spark of excitement and motivation that I was looking for!

Deep down, I was looking for a career that would allow me to trade in my green pastel ticket for a golden one (you know, like the one in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory). The ticket that would allow me to break free from my past feelings of failure and open up the doors to an empire of opportunities.

And that golden ticket came in the form of a career as a Virtual Assistant.

5 Things To Consider Before Hiring A Virtual Assistant

Now my date with Google couldn’t have gone any better and I even bagged myself an interview the same week! Yes, you read that right, an interview. 


I played it "safe" working as a full-time virtual employee for over 2 years before I went all in to launch my own business in January 2020. Now, I’ll be the first to admit my self-doubt delayed me but I’m a believer that everything happens for a reason. 


Those two years shaped me into becoming the Virtual Assistant I am today. 


I had time to learn about the world of entrepreneurship, explore the industries that would benefit from my expertise and uplevel my skillset to be the all-rounded Virtual Assistant that Online Service Providers not only wanted on their team but needed!


So where am I now as we head into the Summer of 2022? 


Well, this marks the third year of business and being my own boss which hasn’t been easy, but I wouldn’t change it for the world! 


Granted I’m not living the “perfect” fairytale yet, but I’ve definitely been given my own Charlie Bucket golden ticket moment to a better life. A life where I can not only follow my passions but support fellow business owners to pursue theirs too by offloading the “boring but essential” admin, social media & design tasks so they can be free! 


Free to stand as the expert in their industry, showcase their skillset, serve dream clients and invest time back into own their personal & business development.
