As an online service provider, I’m fortunate enough to hear about the positive impact, myself and many other OSP’s provide our clients with, through the work and services we offer. There’s no better feeling than being able to play a part in a business’ development and allow owners to focus on harnessing their zone of genius.
(It’s pretty incredible to see)
However, as with any positives there are always a few negatives lurking behind and unfortunately for us freelancers this comes in the form of false myths around outsourcing.
I’ve heard my fair share over the last 3 years as a Virtual Assistant, but in this blog post I’m going to share the top three myths I hear surrounding outsourcing and why you shouldn’t always believe everything you hear:
Myth 1. Outsourcing Means You Lose Control Of Your Business
As Virtual Assistant, I’m here to HELP
(not take over your business)
This means I’m prepared to take on responsibility for the tasks clients CHOOSE
to re-assign to me, rather than assuming full responsibility for their business as many people falsely believe. (I mean come on, the clue’s in the name: Virtual ASSISTANT.) It’s a popular misconception that by offloading areas of your workload, you’ll be out of the loop with what’s happening behind the scenes.
This couldn’t be further from the truth.
With all of my VA service packages, I provide regular contact and updates to my clients; that way we build a strong working relationship where clients feel confident in knowing what work has been completed and open to sharing anything they wish to do slightly differently.
By allocating and outsourcing work to a professional, you’re freeing up time
that would otherwise be spent on the tasks that don’t necessarily generate business. In other words,
you can focus entirely on your zone of genius while I work on the “boring but essential tasks”.
Myth 2. You Should Only Trust Large Companies
It’s another common misbelief that outsourcing should only involve the bigger and more established companies. But as an online service-provider, I can tell you, this isn’t the case.
Yes, there’s the attractive reputation of the more sought-after agencies but it’s not to say you’ll receive a higher-quality service
from them. In fact, by hiring a freelancer, such as a Virtual Assistant, you’re often getting a much more personal service.
As mentioned earlier in this post, I have frequent contact with all my clients on a weekly basis, which allows us to build a positive & effective working relationship. My clients know EXACTLY
who they are working with, compared to outsourcing to a larger company where the chances are, work will be being handled by multiple members of staff that they’ll rarely have contact with.
Not only that, but knowing who is carrying out the work assigned will build a stronger sense of trust
and has resulted in many of my clients offloading even more work than they initially planned – meaning they can spend more time focusing on their zone of genius!

Myth 3. Outsourcing Is Only A Short-Term Solution
Outsourcing business tasks
doesn’t have to be a short-term fix to your schedule.
(Now, I understand there will be times businesses will want to offload tasks on a short-term basis to a freelancer. For example, if they have a short-term project or are filling in for an employee)
But re-assigning tasks to other professionals,
CAN be a permanent solution for your business and create a long lasting, positive impact too!
You have the opportunity to build an effective partnership with your Virtual Assistant that will bring benefits both to you and your company.
(This is something I
STRIVE to build with all my clients)
It’s important to find the right service-provider for you. Someone that understands your business’ values and shares your visions towards the ambitions you have for the future of your business, to help you achieve them.
I know you’d much rather find someone you can work with consistently – meaning you reduce the time spent explaining the same concept over and over again to a number of different people
AND speed up the growth to achieve your business ambitions too!
Am I wrong?
Final Thoughts...
It can be easier said than done, but don’t read into the myths and negativity towards outsourcing your workload.
Focus on the FACTS to select the best option for the future of your business.
(It’s important to add in here…that everyone’s choice will be different and that’s okay!)
In my opinion though, outsourcing is a key part of a business’ growth. It allows you to access a whole new set of skills and expertise through the long-term working relationships you have, which can harness your own zone of genius to create an even greater impact.
If you’re curious to find out more about outsourcing, understand what areas of your business I can support you with, or discover if I’m the right Virtual Assistant for you? Then feel free to
